about

Tracks 1 - 3 were recorded live in session for Freesound Radio in Plymouth sometime around 2007. As I recall it was an extremely hot day so we opened the doors to the studio. That’s why you can hear some activity in the distance.

Track 4 is a traditional song I recorded for the “Songs From The Dogwatch” compilation released by OneC Records in 2008. The brief was to record a song inspired by the sea. I learned this drowning ballad from the Alasdair Roberts album “No Earthly Man”.

Track 5 was recorded for the fundraising compilation “Songs: Molina” (2013), set up by the family of Jason Molina to help with his funeral costs. It was an immense privilege to write and record a song dedicated to the memory of someone I revere. Thank you to the people who set it all up. I was accompanied by J.G. Smeaton and Paul Carpenter who share my fondness for Jason’s music.

Track 6 was recorded for the Last Shop Standing split 7” straight to tape in the back of the record store, released on Record Store Day 2013. Piano by Phil Kendal.

Track 7 is an unreleased demo, probably 2013.
Piano by Phil Kendal.

Track 8 is a cover of the popular Hank Williams song recorded for “The Roaring South” compilation, released 2014. I was happy to be in the company of Sam Lawson, Paul Carpenter and J.G. Smeaton.

Bonus Track. Can’t tell you much about this one. It was sent to me by someone called Mr Picklz. I couldn’t find him to ask permission, and he never asked me for mine either. I’ll just ask for his forgiveness.
